Youth as Resources

Youth As Resources is a program of CHANCES for Indiana Youth, with funding provided by Family Social Services Administration/Youth Service Bureau, the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency, and the Vigo County Local Coordinating Council. The program provides young people with the financial means to complete projects that better their classrooms, schools, and communities. Grants are offered monthly and are simple to apply for. Youth groups complete a paper application and then make a presentation describing their project further to a board of volunteers. These volunteers then decide which projects are funded.

Two different types of grants are offered through the program:

  • Standard grants are awarded in amounts up to $300 for any project that betters the community in some way. Examples of these projects vary from literacy and mentoring programs to landscaping at retirement centers and educating young people on summer safety.
  • Tobacco education and advocacy grants are available in amounts up to $1000 for any project that educates and/or advocates about the harmful effects of tobacco products, focusing on second hand smoke.
